Digital Cooperation Organization To Boost Global Digital Prosperity At OIC Summit In Gambia

The Digital Cooperation Organization (DCO), known for its dedication to advancing digital prosperity and inclusive growth globally, is set to make a significant appearance at the upcoming 15th Islamic Summit Conference. This event, orchestrated by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), is scheduled to take place in the Gambia from May 4th to 5th, 2024. The announcement came through a press release from the DCO, highlighting the organization's ongoing efforts to foster international collaboration in the digital domain.

At the helm of the DCO delegation will be Secretary-General Deemah AlYahya, who will lead discussions at the summit in Banjul, the Gambian capital. The OIC Summit serves as a crucial platform for enhancing cooperation and unity among Islamic nations, focusing on a wide array of issues including political, socioeconomic, and technological advancements.

DCO Aims for Digital Growth at OIC Summit

AlYahya expressed the DCO's commitment to this cause, stating, "The DCO's participation in the OIC Summit embodies our unwavering commitment to bolstering multilateral action to close the digital gap and accelerate digital transformation and prosperity." She emphasized the importance of collaboration across various sectors to achieve a comprehensive and sustainable development within the digital economy. The ultimate aim is to cultivate a global digital economy that offers fair opportunities for governments, companies, and individuals worldwide.

The DCO's presence at the OIC Summit is not just ceremonial but strategic. AlYahya plans to engage in pivotal discussions with government leaders and delegations. These conversations are geared towards fostering cooperation in sustainable development of the digital economy through DCO's innovative initiatives and programs. These efforts are part of a broader strategy to establish international cooperation platforms that connect governments, companies, organizations, and individuals in support of the global digital economy.

With 16 member countries under its belt, representing over USD $3.5 trillion in GDP and covering a market of nearly 800 million people, the DCO stands as a formidable entity in the digital landscape. A significant portion of this demographic includes individuals under 35 years old, highlighting the youthful energy driving the DCO's mission forward.

The theme for this year's OIC Summit, "Enhancing Unity and Solidarity through Dialogue for Sustainable Development," underscores the importance of dialogue in addressing key issues across various domains including media, law, administration, and finance. This aligns with DCO's objectives and its collaborative framework aimed at developing an inclusive and sustainable digital economy.

In a move that further solidifies this partnership, the DCO signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the OIC last year. This agreement lays down a framework for bilateral cooperation aimed at digitalizing human resources and bridging gaps in digital, ICT, and labour skills. It also focuses on promoting high-quality internet connectivity in remote and rural areas while raising awareness about leveraging big data and other emerging technologies.

This collaboration between the DCO and OIC marks a significant step towards achieving their shared goals of fostering an inclusive digital economy that benefits all stakeholders involved. As these discussions unfold at the OIC Summit in Banjul, it is clear that both organizations are committed to leveraging their collective resources and expertise to drive meaningful change in the global digital landscape.
