Czech Karate Coach Embraces Falconry, Excels At Global Breeders Auction

A former Czech karate player and coach at the Saudi Karate Federation has embraced falconry as a new hobby. He started a falcon farm and is now participating in this year's International Falcon Breeders Auction. The auction, organised by the Saudi Falcons Club, is held at their headquarters in Malham, north of Riyadh, until August 24. It attracts leading falcon breeders from 16 countries.

Czech Ilian Kirov, owner of BG Falcons, expressed his delight at joining the auction. He has been a karate coach since 2002 with the Saudi Karate Federation. His interest in falcons grew over time, leading him to start breeding them alongside his coaching duties. Kirov found a unique link between falconry and karate, stating: "I think that the strongest link between the two hobbies is the supernatural speed that a karate player must have, which is one of the most prominent qualities of a falcon, in addition to the ferocity that a karate player may sometimes display to win, which we find in the falcon when it wants to obtain food."

Karate Coach to Falconry Star

The International Falcon Breeders Auction spans 20 days and showcases elite falcon breeds from around the globe. This event has become an annual gathering for falconers and breeders worldwide. It highlights Saudi Arabia's commitment to preserving the ancient tradition of falconry and aims to position the Kingdom as a global hub for falcon enthusiasts.

Kirov praised the organisers' efforts and facilities at the Saudi Falcons Club. "The market is wonderful, and the organisation is excellent. I participated with 32 falcons, and I have sold 12 so far. Falcon enthusiasts still flock daily to the auction to buy and see the latest breeding methods," he said.

The auction serves as an international platform where participants can exchange knowledge on breeding techniques and showcase their finest birds. The event's success reflects Saudi Arabia's dedication to maintaining its cultural heritage while fostering international connections within the falconry community.

As Kirov continues to balance his passions for karate and falconry, his participation in such events underscores his commitment to both disciplines. His journey from martial arts to bird breeding exemplifies how diverse interests can intersect meaningfully.

The auction will continue until August 24, providing ample opportunity for enthusiasts to engage with top-tier breeders and explore innovative practices in falconry.
