Cyber Security Council And DoH Conduct Drill To Strengthen Cyber Resilience In Healthcare Sector

The Department of Health – Abu Dhabi (DoH), in collaboration with the UAE Cyber Security Council, has conducted a cybersecurity drill to bolster cyber resilience in healthcare. This exercise simulated best practices and cybersecurity behaviours among professionals, aiming to enhance the sector's secure digital infrastructure. It underscores DoH's commitment to leveraging digital health technologies for delivering top-tier care.

Dr. Mohammed Al Kuwaiti, Head of Cybersecurity for the UAE Government, commended DoH's ongoing efforts to improve its digital defense capabilities. He highlighted the importance of innovative digital services in elevating healthcare quality. "The Council is dedicated to establishing a strong, secure digital infrastructure across the UAE," he stated, emphasising cybersecurity as a fundamental cultural component.

DoH and Cyber Security Council Boost Cyber Resilience

The drill involved simulated cyberattack scenarios to evaluate healthcare facilities' readiness and improve their response to digital incidents. It tested communication and incident response protocols under cyber threat conditions. This initiative aligns with the Cyber Security Council’s vision to protect the nation's digital infrastructure by empowering critical sectors like healthcare with advanced cyber capabilities.

Held at Bab Al Bahr Hotel in Abu Dhabi, the drill gathered trainees from various DoH-affiliated entities. It assessed the healthcare sector’s preparedness against rising cyber threats and provided insights into global best practices. Practical recommendations were shared to ensure healthcare institutions can manage diverse digital risks effectively.

The exercise included a presentation on DoH’s digital healthcare services, focusing on implementing precise protocols for data security. The aim was to maintain confidentiality and privacy by securely storing patient data and sensitive information. A realistic simulation of the department’s Medical Command Operations Centre demonstrated measures for securing vital health data and ensuring service continuity.

This initiative reflects the Cyber Security Council's commitment to collaborating with public sector institutions. The Council provides technical support, advisory services, and specialised training programmes to ensure service continuity and protect national data. These efforts promote cybersecurity excellence in line with global standards.

Proactive Threat Anticipation

The Department of Health – Abu Dhabi was the first health regulator in the UAE and region to launch a comprehensive cybersecurity strategy tailored for healthcare. This pioneering strategy outlines core principles for safeguarding this critical sector, aiming to enhance infrastructure resilience against cyber risks through proactive threat anticipation and structured response mechanisms.

This drill marks a crucial step in enhancing cyber resilience within healthcare, a primary target for cyberattacks due to sensitive data often exploited for identity theft and fraud. In response, DoH and the Cyber Security Council have developed risk scenarios equipping institutions with tools needed for evolving cyber threats.

Dr. Al Kuwaiti stressed that these efforts are vital for protecting patient data privacy and enhancing healthcare professionals' digital safety skills. He noted that empowering them to respond swiftly to information security challenges is essential amid rapid technological advancements.
