Custodian Of The Two Holy Mosques Launches Riyadh Metro To Enhance Public Transport Network
The Riyadh Metro, a key component of the capital's public transport system, was inaugurated by King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud. This significant project, launched during his reign, features a 176-kilometre network with six lines and 85 stations, including four iconic ones. The metro's design and technology are notable, reflecting its importance in the Kingdom's infrastructure development.
His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud expressed deep appreciation for King Salman's support of the Riyadh Public Transport Project. This project encompasses both metro and bus systems and has been guided by the King's leadership from conception to execution. Prince Mohammed highlighted the project's adherence to global standards.

The Riyadh Public Transport Project is a testament to King Salman's visionary leadership. As Chairman of the High Commission for the Development of Arriyadh, he played a pivotal role in its development. The project emerged from comprehensive studies assessing Riyadh's current and future transport needs, resulting in a sustainable transit plan tailored to the city's unique characteristics.
These studies led to a detailed Public Transport Plan for Riyadh City, incorporating both metro and bus networks. The plan aimed to address the city's mobility requirements effectively. Subsequently, the Council of Ministers approved a resolution to implement this ambitious project, marking a significant milestone in Riyadh's urban development.
The Royal Commission for Riyadh City (RCRC) initiated an international bidding process for the metro project. This attracted participation from several global consortia. Ultimately, contracts were awarded through a Royal Decree to three consortia comprising over 19 major companies from 13 countries. This collaboration underscores the project's global significance.
Under Prince Mohammed's guidance as Chairman of RCRC, the project was successfully executed. It stands as one of the world's largest public transport initiatives completed in a single phase. The meticulous planning and exceptional design reflect its alignment with Riyadh's social, environmental, and urban needs.
Enhancing Urban Mobility
The Riyadh Metro is poised to significantly enhance urban mobility in the capital city. It aims to improve residents' quality of life while aligning with Vision 2030 objectives. By addressing current and projected transportation demands, it contributes to sustainable urban growth and development.
