Cultural Investment Conference Highlights Importance Of Culture In Economic Diversification Efforts
The Cultural Investment Conference began at the King Fahad Cultural Center in Riyadh, organised by the Ministry of Culture. It was under the patronage of His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister. The event's opening session, "From Policy to Prosperity—Culture as a Strategic Investment," featured key figures like Minister of Investment Khalid Al-Falih and Minister of Economy and Planning Faisal Alibrahim.
Al-Falih expressed that the Ministry of Investment is committed to supporting the cultural sector by identifying its needs, attracting investors, providing financing, and organising workshops. He stated, "This collaboration has generated over 40 investment opportunities, including profitable projects and those with high potential. Efforts include accelerating licensing procedures and engaging governance bodies and donors."

The conference highlighted over 40 investment opportunities within the cultural sector. These include projects with significant profit potential. Efforts are being made to speed up licensing processes while engaging governance bodies and donors to support these initiatives. Such measures aim to boost the cultural sector's growth significantly.
Al-Falih also mentioned incentives launched by HRH the Crown Prince that have boosted the film industry and attracted international producers. Programs like Ignite support digital content creation in animation, short films, culinary arts, visual arts, music, and fashion. These efforts are expected to triple job opportunities in the coming years as private sector involvement increases.
Minister Alibrahim noted that globally, the creative sector is valued at $3.4 trillion. This makes it essential for economic diversification in Saudi Arabia. He explained that culture has reshaped the Kingdom's economy by attracting creatives and fostering growth. According to him, every dollar invested in culture can generate an economic impact of up to $2.5 while creating direct job opportunities.
He added that since Saudi Vision 2030 began, around 5,000 people have been trained within the Ministry of Culture's ecosystem. Thousands of students have been sponsored to pursue degrees in cultural sectors. "Our objective under Vision 2030 is to accelerate the diversification of the economy," he said.
Cultural Sector Growth
The conference took place from September 29 to 30 amid rapid growth in Saudi Arabia's cultural sector. This growth highlights its potential for a sustainable cultural industry and broader investment opportunities. The event underscored how culture plays a vital role in driving new sectors such as tourism, entertainment, and sports.
Alibrahim emphasised that culture has been pivotal in driving initial growth waves across these new sectors under Vision 2030. The focus remains on expanding these areas further for continued economic diversification.
The conference showcased how strategic investments in culture can lead to prosperity by creating jobs and stimulating economic growth through diverse initiatives.
