Cultural Celebration Of Yemeni Orchestra In Riyadh Showcases Musical Heritage And Collaboration

The Ministry of Culture, in partnership with Yemen's Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism, organised a cultural event featuring the Yemeni Orchestra at Riyadh's King Fahad Cultural Centre. The gathering was graced by Assistant Minister of Culture Rakan Altouq and Yemen's Minister Moammar Al-Eryani. This event celebrated Yemeni musical heritage by blending traditional tunes with modern compositions.

Renowned Yemeni artists performed alongside Saudi musicians, highlighting the rich musical traditions from Aden, Sana'a, and Hadhramaut. The performances revealed the shared cultural legacies between the two nations. The orchestra, led by Yemeni composer Mohamed Al-Ghoom, captivated audiences with two 45-minute sets. The first segment featured lively rhythms like Mizmar Al-Habish and beloved songs such as Nabdh Al-Madhy.

The second segment opened with Amwaj Alliqa and transitioned to songs including the Yemeni Medley and Ghaddar Allayl. The celebration concluded with a medley of Saudi classics like Watani AlHabeeb and Anta Malek. A heartfelt rendition of Yemen's national anthem, Watan, marked the end of the show.

Beyond music, attendees explored exhibitions organised by the Music Commission under the Ministry of Culture. Traditional instruments like the oud, qanun, and simsimiyya were displayed. The Saudi Music Memory initiative documented the Kingdom's musical history up to the mid-1980s. Additionally, the Saudi Trouq initiative showcased performances blending traditional instruments from both countries.

The International Alliance for the Protection of Heritage in Conflict Areas (ALIPH) enriched the evening with a photographic exhibition. This display highlighted efforts to preserve heritage in conflict zones. Such initiatives underscore a commitment to safeguarding cultural heritage.

This celebration emphasised Saudi Arabia's dedication to fostering cultural exchange and collaboration. By showcasing the rich heritage of both nations, it strengthened cultural ties and offered a unique musical experience celebrating their shared bond.
