CST Announces ICT Readiness Plan To Enhance Services For Pilgrims During 1446 Hajj Season
The Communications, Space & Technology Commission (CST) has declared the ICT sector ready for the 1446 Hajj season. This readiness is due to the unwavering support and empowerment from Saudi Arabia's leadership. The Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Abdullah bin Amer Alswaha, oversees these efforts as Chairman of CST’s Board of Directors. Their goal is to ensure pilgrims experience maximum comfort and convenience.
Acting Governor Haytham bin Abdulrahman AlOhali emphasised CST's dedication to using its full capabilities as the Kingdom's ICT regulator. This commitment ensures high-quality communication and technology services through a strong digital infrastructure. Public and private entities collaborate to provide seamless digital services, enhancing the overall experience for pilgrims.

AlOhali highlighted that preparations included over 10,500 Wi-Fi access points across Makkah, Madinah, and the Holy Sites. Mobile internet speeds in Makkah reached 264 Mbps, a 10% increase from last year, while Madinah saw speeds of 336 Mbps, a 19% rise. Additionally, 5G coverage achieved 99% in these areas.
During a field visit to telecom service provider sites in Makkah and the Holy Sites, Alswaha and AlOhali assessed the sector’s readiness. They noted that more than 4,000 personnel from the communications and technology sector are involved this year in serving pilgrims. This workforce ensures that all technological needs are met efficiently.
CST has finalised preparations to welcome pilgrims at key congregation points and entry ports. Inspection visits were carried out at King Abdulaziz International Airport, Halat Ammar Border Crossing, Yanbu Port, and Jadidat Arar Border Crossing. These inspections verified service providers' readiness and ensured Hajj service plans are implemented effectively.
The frequency spectrum is closely monitored using advanced technology to detect any potential interference. AlOhali praised the significant efforts made to provide services at the Holy Sites during Hajj season. These efforts reflect the generous support from Saudi leadership.
The robust digital infrastructure enables seamless communication services for pilgrims. The collaboration between public and private sectors ensures that digital services are delivered without interruption during this important religious event.
With over 99% coverage of both 4G and 5G networks in Makkah, Madinah, and the Holy Sites, connectivity remains strong throughout these regions. This extensive coverage supports various digital services crucial for pilgrims' convenience during their spiritual journey.
The comprehensive preparations by CST demonstrate their commitment to facilitating a smooth Hajj experience through advanced technology solutions. By ensuring operational readiness across all aspects of ICT infrastructure, CST plays a vital role in supporting this significant religious event.
