Crown Prince Of Abu Dhabi Discusses Strengthening Ties With Brazil's President Lula Da Silva

H.H. Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, recently engaged in official discussions with Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, President of Brazil. Their meeting focused on enhancing the friendship and cooperation between the UAE and Brazil. They explored opportunities to further develop relations to serve both nations' common interests.

The discussions highlighted the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the UAE and Brazil. This milestone reflects significant growth and progress in their bilateral ties, particularly in economy, investment, renewable energy, and sustainability. Both leaders expressed a shared commitment to further enhancing these relations.

During their talks, the Crown Prince and President exchanged views on various mutual interests. They emphasised the importance of strengthening the strategic partnership to benefit their people and promote stability and development regionally and globally. His Highness reaffirmed the UAE's dedication to enhancing cooperation with Brazil at all levels.

The meeting also addressed initiatives aimed at expanding cooperation for sustainable development in both countries. His Highness conveyed greetings from President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, wishing continued prosperity for Brazil. Similarly, President Lula da Silva extended his greetings to Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, expressing hopes for ongoing success for the UAE.

A Memorandum of Understanding was signed during the meeting to establish a joint mechanism promoting UAE investments in strategic sectors in Brazil. Mohamed Hassan Alsuwaidi, UAE Minister of Investment, and Rui Costa, Presidency Chief of Staff of Brazil, signed this agreement.

Additionally, another memorandum was signed between the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Brazil Ministry of Foreign Affairs on cooperation in Africa. Reem Al Hashimy, UAE Minister of State for International Cooperation, and Mauro Vieira, Brazilian Minister of Foreign Affairs were signatories.

Customs Cooperation and Trade Initiatives

The session also discussed an agreement between Abu Dhabi Customs and Brazil's Tax Authority to enhance customs cooperation across various areas. The launch of a digital trade corridor was commended as it aims to streamline trade procedures and boost collaboration.

President Lula da Silva praised the UAE's initiative to plant 10,000 palm trees in Bahia state as part of a knowledge transfer programme with Al Foah Company. He also expressed gratitude for UAE support within G20 initiatives like the Global Alliance against Hunger and Poverty.

Upcoming G20 Summit Participation

His Highness Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan will lead the UAE delegation at the G20 summit in Rio de Janeiro from 18-19 November 2024. This follows an invitation from President Lula da Silva to President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan for attending this significant event.

The meeting underscored a commitment to advancing sustainable development through collaborative programmes. Both nations aim to strengthen their ties further for mutual prosperity while addressing global challenges together.
