Crazy Speed Sculpture Relocated After 38 Years For Jeddah Corniche Circuit Expansion

The "Crazy Speed" sculpture, a notable piece of art in Jeddah, was recently relocated from its spot on the northern corniche after 38 years. This move was to accommodate the Jeddah Corniche Circuit, now famed as the fastest and longest Formula 1 track globally. The sculpture, crafted by Spanish artist Julio Lafuente in the 1980s, was a significant artistic landmark in Jeddah.

The sculpture depicted five cars crashing into a cube, symbolising the dangers of reckless driving. Its satirical message served as a warning against excessive speed. Over the years, it became a popular photo spot and an emblem of contemporary art in Jeddah. Despite its relocation, it continues to convey its social message from its new site.

Jeddah Municipality's spokesperson revealed that 40 roads spanning 46 kilometres were developed in the Formula 1 zone and nearby streets. These developments are part of ongoing preparations for future sporting events at the Jeddah Corniche Circuit. The work is divided across seven main areas to enhance infrastructure.

The Formula 1 stc Saudi Arabian Grand Prix will return to Jeddah for the fifth time. This event aligns with Saudi Vision 2030, which aims to position Saudi Arabia as a global centre for sports, culture, and entertainment. The vision also focuses on creating an urban environment that meets both residents' and visitors' aspirations.
