COP28 President Urges For Ambitious Climate Action In Line With UAE Consensus
At the annual Petersberg Climate Dialogue, Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, the Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology and COP28 President, made a compelling call for governments worldwide to elevate their climate action plans. He underscored the significance of the UAE Consensus, a beacon for global climate ambition and sustainable development. This initiative has led to significant strides in sectors such as renewable energy, deforestation, finance, and notably, in integrating previously overlooked areas like food and health into the climate conversation.

The COP Presidencies Troika, comprising leaders from three COP summits, echoed this sentiment by urging nations to enhance their Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) with more ambitious targets. The Petersberg Climate Dialogue also featured a Majlis hosted by the COP Presidencies Troika to foster discussions on the energy transition. This traditional Emirati meeting format was praised by Dr. Al Jaber for its effectiveness in facilitating open and practical dialogues at COP28, helping to navigate through stalemates. He advocated for candid discussions on balancing climate urgency with energy security and economic prosperity, ensuring equitable opportunities while pursuing emission reductions.
In addition to these discussions, Dr. Al Jaber held bilateral meetings with key international figures including President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan, Germany's Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock, and France's Minister for Foreign Affairs and Europe, Stéphane Séjourné.
