Sharjah Ruler Signs Cooperation Agreement With UK's University of Exeter
H.H. Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, praised the collaboration between Sharjah's universities and the University of Exeter in the UK. This partnership is crucial for advancing academic and research systems in Sharjah, ensuring excellent scientific outcomes for students.
The agreement allows students from Khorfakkan University's Marine Sciences and Aquatic Life Program to complete their final year at the University of Exeter. Graduates will receive degrees from both institutions. This collaboration includes student exchanges, research initiatives, and faculty visits to enhance scientific standards at Khorfakkan University.
The Ruler of Sharjah expressed gratitude to the University of Exeter for their long-term cooperation with Sharjah. He commended their dedication to fostering scientific and academic partnerships that benefit humanity by spreading accurate knowledge and developing students.
Dr. Lisa Roberts, President of the University of Exeter, thanked the Ruler of Sharjah for his efforts in improving education in Sharjah. She acknowledged his support for higher education institutions and international collaborations that advance academic fields and cultivate rare specialisations in the region.

The memorandum aims to exchange scientific, academic, and professional knowledge through organised visits between Exeter and Khorfakkan universities to advance various fields.
After the signing ceremony, the Ruler of Sharjah visited the Khorfakkan Centre for Marine Sciences project site on Khorfakkan beach with officials from both universities. He reviewed project plans and learned about facilities available for researchers and students.
Sustainable Development Commitment
The centre will feature specialised laboratories with advanced technologies like genetics, environmental chemistry, marine anatomy, electron microscopy, microbiology, and remote sensing facilities.
This project demonstrates Sharjah's commitment to sustainable development through future-oriented strategies aimed at protecting ecosystems. The centre aims to lead research in marine sciences while building alliances with academic institutions globally to promote marine conservation initiatives.
