Continental Europe Faces Great Britain & Ireland In Team Cup At Abu Dhabi Golf Resort
Francesco Molinari is set to lead his team in defending the Team Cup at the Abu Dhabi Golf Resort. This week, his Continental European side will face Great Britain & Ireland from Friday to Sunday in the UAE capital. Molinari, Italy's first Major Champion after winning The Open in 2019, previously led his team to a 14½ - 10½ victory over GB&I.
Justin Rose, another Major Champion and Ryder Cup teammate of Molinari, will captain the GB&I team. This event is crucial for Europe's Ryder Cup preparations ahead of this year's competition at Bethpage in New York. The two ten-man teams include four Ryder Cup players: Molinari, Rose, Tommy Fleetwood, and Tyrrell Hatton.

The competition spans three days of match play with a total of 69 DP World Tour titles among participants. Friday features one fourballs session, followed by two foursomes sessions on Saturday. The final singles session will occur on Sunday, with each player participating in every session.
In the opening match of the first session, Rose will partner with Matt Wallace against France's Romain Langasque and Matthieu Pavon. Langasque won the Amateur Championship in 2015, while Pavon became the first Frenchman in over a century to win on the PGA TOUR last season.
Rasmus Højgaard, who missed last year's event due to injury, will team up with Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen. They will face Laurie Canter and Jordan Smith from England. Smith has two DP World Tour wins and is a former Challenge Tour Rankings winner; Canter secured his first title last season at the European Open.
Julien Guerrier replaces Nicolai Højgaard due to illness and will play alongside Antoine Rozner. Guerrier claimed his maiden DP World Tour title at last year's Estrella Damm N.A. Andalucía Masters, while Rozner has three DP World Tour victories. They will compete against Tyrrell Hatton and Tom McKibbin from Northern Ireland.
Key Matches
The Danish duo of Thorbjørn Olesen and Niklas Nørgaard will face Matthew Jordan and Paul Waring. Olesen is an eight-time DP World Tour winner and played in the 2018 Ryder Cup. Waring secured his second DP World Tour victory at last season's Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship.
Molinari will play alongside Matteo Manassero against Tommy Fleetwood and Aaron Rai in the anchor match. Molinari and Fleetwood famously won all four matches together at the 2018 Ryder Cup as 'Moliwood.' Manassero returned to winning form last year at the Jonsson Workwear Open, while Rai won his first PGA TOUR title at the Wyndham Championship.
This event promises exciting matchups as both teams prepare for future challenges while showcasing their skills on an international stage.
