Content Creation As A Catalyst For Awareness And Human Development At The 1 Billion Followers Summit
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, attended the third edition of the 1 Billion Followers Summit. This event is the largest gathering focused on the content creator economy. Organised by the UAE Government Media Office, it takes place over three days at Emirates Towers, Dubai International Financial Centre, and Museum of the Future in Dubai.
The summit's theme is 'Content for Good,' attracting over 15,000 content creators and more than 420 speakers from around the globe. His Highness Sheikh Mohammed emphasised content creation's role in promoting awareness, culture, and human development. He highlighted its significance in enhancing systems and work structures while showcasing achievements.
For the first time globally, major social media platforms like Snapchat, X, YouTube, TikTok, LinkedIn, and Meta (Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp) have come together at this summit. His Highness Sheikh Mohammed visited their pavilions during his attendance. He also reviewed the One Billion Pitches competition's judging panel's work.
The competition evaluates applications from startups and content creators with entrepreneurial ideas that have a positive social impact. His Highness was accompanied by notable figures such as His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and His Excellency Mohammad Al Gergawi.
Mohammad Al Gergawi stated that under President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan's leadership and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum's guidance, the UAE has become a global hub for shaping the future of content creation. The country focuses on developing strategies to advance this sector by attracting creative talent.
The summit features specialised tracks on economy, content, and technology with 340 sessions and discussions. It reflects global recognition of this sector's social and economic impact. Participants discuss intellectual property protection, misinformation challenges, analytical tools use, AI leverage, and digital community building.
Investment in Content Creation
The third edition aims to boost the content industry economy valued at $250 billion globally. More than 10 investment funds worth AED50 million support content creators. Companies managing assets between $7-8 billion participate in this initiative.
The One Billion Pitches competition receives backing from Shurooq and the summit with AED50 million funding combined. It aims to fund innovative startups in content creation. The competition received 500 applications from 40 countries worldwide.
Award Recognition
The winner of the One Billion Award will be announced on the final day of the summit. This award is recognised as one of the most prestigious global recognitions for content creators. Recently shortlisted top five creators were chosen through public voting held from December 22 to 28, 2024.
An impressive 3.3 million votes were cast globally during this period. The grand prize winner will receive $1 million on the third day of this significant event.
