Comprehensive Services Enhance Accessibility For Elderly Worshippers At Grand Mosque

The General Authority for the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet's Mosque has introduced various services to support elderly worshippers. These initiatives aim to provide a safe, comfortable, and accessible environment, allowing them to perform religious duties with ease. This commitment reflects the authority's dedication to comprehensive care for elderly visitors.

Electric shuttle services are available in the eastern square, facilitating transportation from the Gaza Bridge to the Al-Salam Basement. This service aids elderly worshippers in navigating the expansive mosque area. Additionally, large electric vehicles are stationed at key locations to assist with the Saa'i ritual.

These vehicles are positioned at strategic points such as the Al-Marwah Stairway and elevators, Al-Arqam Stairway and elevators, and Al-Qarara Stairway. The Saa'i service is conducted on the second floor, with staff ensuring safety during pilgrim movements. This arrangement significantly eases participation in this important ritual.

Prayer rooms designed specifically for elderly individuals and those with disabilities have been established within the Grand Mosque. Located in the King Fahd expansion on the first floor near Gates 91 and 64, these rooms cater to their unique needs. The provision of such facilities underscores a commitment to inclusivity.

Certain gates like Gates 68 and 90 feature ramps and signage tailored for electric vehicles, enhancing accessibility further. These modifications ensure that elderly worshippers can enter and exit smoothly without encountering barriers. Such thoughtful infrastructure improvements facilitate seamless movement within sacred spaces.

Bridges and elevators have been strategically set up to streamline vehicle movement into the mosque. Notable installations include Ajyad, Al-Shabika, Al-Arqam, and Al-Marwah bridges alongside Al-Arqam elevator and Al-Salam Basement access points. These enhancements collectively contribute towards a welcoming environment for all visitors.

The comprehensive measures implemented by the authority ensure that elderly pilgrims can perform their religious obligations without unnecessary challenges. By prioritising accessibility and comfort, these services reflect a broader commitment to accommodating diverse needs within sacred spaces.
