Commando Group Leads Medal Table At Abu Dhabi World Masters Jiu-Jitsu Championship Opener

The Commando Group from the UAE made a significant impact on the seventh day of the Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship. This event is being held at Mubadala Arena from November 6-16. The Abu Dhabi World Masters Jiu-Jitsu Championship began with purple and brown belts competing fiercely. By day's end, Commando Group led the medal tally, followed by M.O.D UAE and Kazakhstan National Academy.

High-level techniques were on display during the competition, with intense matchups captivating spectators. The day also included Masters qualifying matches for men's black belt and women's brown/black belt categories. Competitors aimed to secure spots in the main bracket and final rounds scheduled for tomorrow.

Commando Group Tops Abu Dhabi Jiu-Jitsu Championship

Several notable figures attended the championship to crown winners. Among them were Sheikh Salem Bin Khalid Al Qassimi, UAE Minister of Culture; Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, UAE Minister of State for Foreign Trade; and Alia bint Abdullah Al Mazrouei, UAE Minister of State for Entrepreneurship. Other attendees included Sheikh Tarik bin Faisal Al Qasimi and Staff Major General Pilot Faris Khalaf Al Mazrouei.

Mohamed Salem Al Dhaheri, Vice Chairman of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation, commended the athletes' commitment and skill. He noted that their achievements in belt ranks reflect dedication to success. "The Masters category is a key part of the Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship," he stated, highlighting its role in inspiring new generations.

Khalifa Abdullah Al Qubaisi expressed pride in attending the event and crowning champions from various countries. "We are proud to organise an event of this scale in our capital, Abu Dhabi," he said. He praised the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation's efforts in promoting the sport locally and internationally.

Jyri Heinonen from Cobra Fitness clinched gold in the Men’s GI / Brown / Master 4 / 94KG category. "I’ve been planning to come to Abu Dhabi and compete here for a long time," he shared. Heinonen was thrilled with his victory after extensive training both in Europe and Abu Dhabi.

Heinonen remarked on his experience: "I’ve competed in many tournaments across Europe, but I’ve never seen one of this scale." He found the experience incredible and plans to return next year.

The championship continues to grow each year into a true celebration of sport, showcasing impressive performances from athletes worldwide. This year's event has further solidified its reputation as a premier jiu-jitsu competition.
