Collaboration Is Essential For Future Progress At Davos 2025 Amid Global Challenges

Klaus Schwab, the founder of the World Economic Forum, highlighted the importance of cooperation in transitioning from the Industrial Age to the era of Artificial Intelligence. At the 55th World Economic Forum Annual Meeting in Davos, he stated, "This transition from the Industrial to the Intelligent Age is occurring at an exponential pace, carrying unprecedented risks for humanity as we strive to prepare and adapt for its complexities." He also noted that this shift presents significant opportunities for advancements in various fields.

Schwab urged global stakeholders to embrace "constructive optimism" and collaborate across sectors such as government, business, civil society, and academia. He emphasised that by believing in our collective capacity to improve the world, we can shape an era where everyone can reach their full potential. This call to action aims to address shared challenges through unity and innovation.

Børge Brende, President and CEO of the World Economic Forum, pointed out that 2025 will be a pivotal year. He remarked on the decline of the international order that has existed for three decades. Brende stressed that finding effective ways to work together is essential for progress. This collaboration is seen as crucial for navigating current global challenges.

Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, discussed Europe's strategy to adapt to intense geostrategic competition. She highlighted Europe's need to enhance competitiveness and strengthen global partnerships while maintaining sustainable development commitments. Von der Leyen stated that Europe must seek new opportunities beyond traditional boundaries and is prepared for necessary changes.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz emphasised renewed commitments to security and prosperity amid global challenges. He underscored partnerships as vital drivers for successful economic development. Scholz's remarks align with broader calls for international cooperation in addressing pressing issues.

China's Call for Globalisation

Ding Xuexiang, Vice-Premier of China, warned against increasing fragmentation in the global economic system. He advocated for a universally beneficial globalisation process and reaffirmed China's commitment to a UN-centred multilateral order. Ding called for enhanced cooperation in scientific and technological innovation to ensure equitable advancements globally.

The Prime Minister of Vietnam, Pham Minh Chinh, reiterated Vietnam's focus on leveraging AI by establishing research centres in high-tech sectors. These initiatives aim not only at technological innovation but also at positioning Vietnam as a regional hub for high-tech manufacturing and development.

Africa's G20 Presidency Goals

Cyril Ramaphosa, President of South Africa, outlined Africa's objectives as it assumes the G20 Presidency. The upcoming summit in Johannesburg in November 2025 will focus on themes of solidarity, equality, and sustainable development. This marks a significant moment as it will be the first G20 Summit hosted in Africa.
