Codex Delegation Highlights Saudi Experience At SFDA Interactive Awareness Center
The chairperson of the Codex Alimentarius Commission, Dr. Allan Azegele, led a delegation that visited the Saudi Food and Drug Authority Interactive Awareness Center in Riyadh. The visit formed part of a wider program in the Kingdom linked to an international workshop.
During the tour, the delegation examined how the Interactive Awareness Center presented food and drug safety messages in a simple, engaging style. They observed how scientific information was translated into practical advice that related directly to daily consumer habits and supported preventive health awareness.

The center introduced visitors to the full journey of food, from farms and production sites to the dining table. Exhibits also explained how the human body uses different nutrients, building an integrated learning experience designed for various groups in society, including families, students, and professionals.
Another section of the center focused on the development of medicine, from ancient treatments to current manufacturing methods. Displays underlined the Saudi Food and Drug Authority’s responsibilities in supervising this vital sector, ensuring that medicines and related products met safety and quality standards within the Kingdom.
The visitors received a detailed explanation of how the center converted regulatory rules and technical standards into clear awareness messages. This approach helped make complex requirements easier for the public to understand and apply, supported food and drug safety concepts, and contributed to improving public health outcomes.
The chairperson and accompanying Codex delegation members commended the link between regulatory tasks and awareness activities at the center. They stated that this model successfully connected international standards with community outreach efforts and showed how such standards could have a stronger effect in everyday life.
