Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, a member of the M42 group, has achieved a notable advancement in vascular care by successfully performing the AlphaVac thrombectomy. This procedure utilises a vacuum-assisted device to extract dangerous blood clots from large veins in the heart and lungs. The minimally invasive technique offers reduced postoperative risks compared to traditional open-heart surgery.

The Heart, Vascular & Thoracic Institute (HVTI) at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi carried out this innovative procedure on a 70-year-old patient with multiple severe health issues. These included hypertension, chronic kidney disease, heart failure, atrial fibrillation, coronary artery disease, and aortic valve stenosis. Previously, these conditions necessitated open-heart surgery for the patient.
