Oman Issues Severe Weather Warning For This Week Starting Monday
The Civil Aviation Authority of Oman has issued an alert in anticipation of severe weather conditions expected to start on the evening of Monday and persist through Tuesday and Wednesday. This weather disturbance is attributed to clouds associated with a tropical system, which is forecasted to bring heavy thunderstorms, particularly impacting the governorates of South Al Sharqiyah, Al Wusta, and Dhofar. Additionally, parts of Muscat, North Al Sharqiyah, Al Dakhiliyah, South Al Batinah, North Al Batinah, Al Dhahirah, and Al Buraimi are also expected to be affected.
The forecast predicts rainfall amounts varying from 30-80 mm, accompanied by strong downdrafts and the possibility of hail, which could lead to flash floods, known locally as Wadis. The Civil Aviation Authority advises the public to exercise caution during these thundershowers, urging them not to cross flooded areas and to avoid low-lying regions and sailing during the alert period.

The National Multi-Hazard Early Warning Center, operating under the Civil Aviation Authority, has also highlighted the potential for heavy thundershowers with hail, which may result in flash floods. Winds are expected to be particularly strong, with speeds ranging from 15-35 knots (28-64 km/h). Furthermore, the sea state along the majority of the Oman Sea coasts is predicted to rise, reaching heights of 1.5 to 3 meters. The authority also warns of a reduction in horizontal visibility during these thundershowers.
