China And USA Shine At Junior, Cadet Fencing Championships In Riyadh
At the prestigious 2024 Junior and Cadet Fencing World Championships held in Riyadh, the spotlight shone brightly on the young fencers who showcased their skills on the second day of the event. Sheikh Eng. Salem Al-Qasimi, President of the Asian and Arab Fencing Federations, took the honour of awarding the winners in a ceremony that celebrated the achievements of these young athletes.
Lyu Weiqiao from China emerged victorious in the under-17 men's foil (individual) category, securing the gold medal after an intense final against Deseranno Don Jeidus from the United States, who settled for silver. The competition was fierce, but Lyu's skill and determination saw him through to the top podium spot. The bronze medal was shared between Luk Chun Lok from Hong Kong and Canadian Xu Jia Bao, both delivering commendable performances to repeat third place.

In the women's under-17 foil event, it was Liu Jaelyn from the United States who clinched the gold medal. She faced off against Volobueva Polina, who took home the silver medal after a challenging bout. The bronze medals were awarded to Kus Natasza from Poland and Canadian Zhang Yunjia, both athletes showcasing exceptional talent to secure their spots on the podium.
The awards for the women's event were presented by Abdulkarim Al-Shamlan, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Kuwait Fencing Federation, highlighting the collaborative spirit and mutual respect within the fencing community.
The championships continue to draw attention from around the globe, with 67 teams participating in the men's and women's youth foil (teams) event scheduled for tomorrow. The competitions are set to commence at 8:30 am local time, promising another day of thrilling encounters and remarkable displays of skill and sportsmanship.
