China Vows To Collaborate On Key Trade Initiatives At WTO Conference In Abu Dhabi
At the 13th Ministerial Conference of the World Trade Organisation (WTO) held in Abu Dhabi, Chinese Commerce Minister Wang Wentao expressed China's readiness to collaborate with all stakeholders to achieve tangible outcomes. In a significant meeting with WTO Director-General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Wentao highlighted China's support for key initiatives aimed at enhancing the global trade framework.
During the discussions, the Chinese Commerce Minister underscored China’s support for the restoration of the WTO's dispute settlement mechanism, which is crucial for resolving trade disagreements among countries. He emphasized the importance of maintaining the moratorium on customs duties on electronic transmissions and called for the swift conclusion of e-commerce negotiations. Okonjo-Iweala expressed her anticipation that China will continue to lead in negotiations on critical issues such as reforming the WTO's dispute settlement mechanism and fisheries subsidies. She also highlighted the importance of China's contributions to the success of MC13.
