China Targets Over 40% Green Factory Output By 2030 To Boost Sustainable Manufacturing

By 2030, over 40% of China's manufacturing output at various levels will originate from green factories, according to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT). This was announced during a policy briefing on Friday. The ministry aims to encourage foreign trade enterprises to embrace green design and production methods, thereby boosting the country's green trade sector.

The MIIT plans to enhance value creation by guiding companies in adopting green design and manufacturing practices. This approach is expected to increase product value through "green premiums" and improve access to international markets. The ministry's strategy involves accelerating the transformation of the entire industrial chain, from product design to recycling.

China's Green Factory Output Target for 2030

Wang Peng, Director of the Department of Energy Conservation and Comprehensive Utilisation at MIIT, stated that efforts will focus on upgrading the entire chain. This includes product design, manufacturing, usage, recycling, and circular utilisation. The goal is to boost the gross manufacturing output from green factories across national, provincial, and municipal levels to 40% by 2030.

Wang Peng also mentioned initiatives for enhancing green supply chains. These initiatives aim to promote the transformation of high-tech zones and industrial parks into greener spaces. Additionally, there are plans to develop zero-carbon parks as part of these efforts.

By late 2024, China had made significant strides in green manufacturing. The country established 451 enterprises focused on green design and promoted over 40,000 green products. Furthermore, it built 6,430 national-level green factories and 491 green industrial parks. These factories contributed more than 20% of the national manufacturing output.

The MIIT's comprehensive plan aims not only at increasing the number of green factories but also at enhancing their efficiency and output. By fostering innovation in green technology and practices, China seeks to position itself as a leader in sustainable manufacturing globally.

This strategic move towards greener production processes reflects China's commitment to environmental sustainability while boosting its economic growth through enhanced trade opportunities.
