CEPA Enhances Economic Partnership Between New Zealand And UAE For High-Quality Food Exports
Christopher Luxon, the Prime Minister of New Zealand, emphasised the UAE's role as a key economic ally for New Zealand. He highlighted that the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) signifies a fresh chapter in their bilateral relations. This statement was made during the World Future Energy Summit, part of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week 2025.
Luxon noted that both nations have shared strengths that bolster their economic ties. The relationship between the UAE and New Zealand has been fruitful for over four decades, marked by numerous achievements. He described CEPA as mutually beneficial and expressed his desire to enhance it further for the advantage of both countries and their citizens.

The Prime Minister pointed out that CEPA has positively influenced trade and investment frameworks in both countries. He stressed its direct economic impact on New Zealand, which heavily depends on exporting goods globally. The agreement opens up significant opportunities for New Zealand's economy, especially in increasing exports of premium food products to the UAE.
Luxon highlighted that this partnership aligns with both nations' ambitious goals in food security. The UAE market serves as an ideal platform for expanding New Zealand's exports due to local consumers' preference for high-quality goods. Approximately 70% of New Zealand’s exports to the UAE are food and dairy products, alongside industrial items, machinery, equipment, and horticultural goods.
The Prime Minister praised the World Future Energy Summit (WFES) for its role in advancing global discussions on renewable energy. It provides a unique platform to explore these issues and encourage innovation. During WFES, Luxon engaged with state leaders, sovereign wealth fund officials, and company CEOs to discuss enhancing joint investment opportunities.
The focus was particularly on renewable energy and other sectors contributing to sustainability goals and economic growth in both countries. Luxon expressed his ambition to deepen collaboration with the UAE in renewable energy. Both nations possess advanced energy mixes and share promising ambitions in this crucial sector.
UAE’s Leadership in Climate Action
Luxon acknowledged the UAE's leadership in climate action and its ongoing transition towards alternative energies. The UAE remains at the forefront of efforts to adopt new energy solutions. This commitment aligns with New Zealand's vision for sustainable development through innovative energy practices.
The partnership between New Zealand and the UAE is set to grow stronger through CEPA, fostering economic cooperation across various sectors while addressing shared challenges like food security and sustainable energy development.
