CDF Successfully Concludes Its Participation In The Red Sea International Film Festival 2023

The Cultural Development Fund (CDF) recently wrapped up its involvement in the Red Sea International Film Festival's fourth edition, held from December 5 to 14 in Historic Jeddah. The CDF made a significant impact by engaging filmmakers and enthusiasts worldwide through various activities, including a pavilion, workshops, panel discussions, and a Cultural Financing Reception. This event was organised in collaboration with the Festival and the Jeddah Historic District Program.

One of the CDF's key contributions was sponsoring the Red Sea Souk for the third consecutive year. This platform connected local and international filmmakers with industry leaders, allowing them to present their projects and engage with experts. The sponsorship underscores the Fund's dedication to fostering strategic partnerships that ensure the cultural sector's sustainability.

CDF Wraps Up at Red Sea Film Festival

The CDF's pavilion at the Red Sea Souk attracted global visitors, showcasing financial and developmental solutions for sustaining creativity and cultural projects. The Fund actively participated in market activities, including a workshop titled "Cultural Financing for the Film Industry." This session highlighted how the Fund supports film project growth across various stages.

Additionally, a panel discussion titled "New Horizons: Collaborating with the Saudi Film Industry" featured key industry figures. This discussion delved into Saudi cinema's foundational elements, exploring how the CDF enhances it and offers solutions to empower cinematic projects.

The Cultural Financing Reception drew over 200 cultural creators from around the world. During this event, the Fund signed eight credit facility agreements under its Cultural Financing program with leading companies across five cultural sectors: museums, music, cultural festivals and events, culinary arts, and films. These agreements amounted to more than SAR 95 million in funding.

A memorandum of understanding was also signed with the Red Sea Film Foundation for joint financing of film projects. Additionally, four creatives in Below-the-Line (BTL) filmmaking were celebrated through Studio Awards presented by Studio Production Training (SPT), a project supported by the Fund.

Collaborations with Saudi Artists

The CDF collaborated with several prominent Saudi artists to enrich its engagement at the festival. Saudi Chef Nawal Al-Khalawi crafted cultural tasting experiences inspired by Saudi culinary arts for both the pavilion and reception. Visual artist Lulwah Al-Hamoud contributed her artwork titled Development for commemorative gifts symbolising the Fund’s role in empowering culture.

The Fund also partnered with TeamLab Borderless Museum to offer artistic tours of light-based artworks for reception guests. These collaborations reflect CDF’s commitment to supporting creativity and fostering artistic partnerships that amplify cultural creators' impact.

Through these initiatives, the Cultural Development Fund continues to champion cultural development by helping creators share their stories with wider audiences. Such efforts highlight its ongoing dedication to nurturing creativity within Saudi Arabia's vibrant cultural landscape.
