CBUAE Introduces New AED 100 Banknote Featuring Advanced Security And Design Elements

The Central Bank of the UAE (CBUAE) has introduced a new AED100 banknote made from polymer, featuring innovative designs and advanced security features. This initiative aligns with the UAE's leadership vision and underscores the country's commitment to sustainability. The new note is part of the CBUAE’s Third Issuance of the National Currency Project, highlighting the UAE's journey to becoming a global economic hub.

The design of this banknote is marked by its aesthetic appeal, using various shades of red while retaining the colour characteristics of the current denomination for easy public recognition. The front side displays Um Al Quwain National Fort, a historical monument that connects past and present. The reverse side showcases Port of Fujairah, a major maritime transport centre, along with Etihad Rail, which links the seven Emirates and extends to Gulf Cooperation Council countries.

To enhance consumer confidence and deter counterfeiting, the AED100 banknote incorporates advanced security features. These include SPARK Flow DIMENSIONS technology and KINEGRAM COLORS, a multi-coloured security chip technology. Such innovations ensure that the banknote remains secure against fraudulent activities.

Polymer banknotes offer greater durability compared to traditional paper notes, lasting two or more times longer in circulation. This makes them more sustainable and cost-effective over time. Additionally, prominent Braille symbols are included on these notes to assist blind and visually impaired individuals in identifying their value.

The new AED100 note reflects cultural and developmental symbols that illustrate the UAE's success story. It embodies the nation's ambitious aspirations for future progress while honouring its historical heritage. Khaled Mohamed Balama, Governor of CBUAE, stated: "The new 100 dirham banknote reflects our commitment to the leadership's vision for a sustainable future through initiatives and achievements that support Net Zero and enhance the nation's financial competitiveness."

He further added: "Its design embodies the country's ambitious aspirations for future progress and prosperity while honouring its historical and cultural heritage. We are pleased to announce this special issue in conjunction with the Eid Al-Fitr celebrations."

Award-Winning Design

Recently, CBUAE received accolades at the 2023 and 2025 High Security Printing EMEA conference for its AED500 and AED1000 polymer banknotes. These awards recognised their unique designs, technical characteristics, and innovative security features.

The new AED100 banknote will circulate alongside existing notes starting March 24, 2025. Banks and exchange houses have been instructed to update their machines to accept this new note seamlessly with existing ones. The value of all paper and polymer notes is guaranteed by law.
