CARACAL And VentureOne Unveil Centurion Body Armour System For Enhanced Soldier Protection At IDEX 2025
Abu Dhabi's VentureOne and CARACAL have joined forces to introduce Centurion, an advanced body armour system. This innovation, crafted by the Technology Innovation Institute (TII), aims to enhance safety, mobility, and comfort for defence personnel. The launch is set for IDEX 2025, the region's premier defence exhibition. CARACAL is a leader in high-performance small arms within EDGE, a top global technology and defence group.
Traditional body armour often poses challenges due to its weight and restrictive nature. Centurion addresses these issues by incorporating advanced materials developed by TII experts. This new armour promises improved mobility and comfort while maintaining high safety standards, even in harsh conditions. Initially, it will be deployed with UAE troops before being offered internationally.

Centurion’s plates provide rifle-grade protection, including the Level III++ variant that withstands multiple rounds of various calibres while reducing impact trauma. It surpasses international ballistic standards like those from the National Institute of Justice (NIJ). The armour's lightweight design enhances mobility and includes situational awareness features for real-time responsiveness.
The modular plate system of Centurion allows for customisation with different shapes and coatings. This adaptability ensures suitability for covert, tactical, or maritime missions. Its positive buoyancy makes it ideal for marine operations. These features make Centurion a versatile choice for diverse military needs.
Hamad Al Ameri, CEO of CARACAL, stated that their collaboration with VentureOne and TII focuses on addressing modern infantry challenges. He emphasised the importance of lighter weight and enhanced manoeuvrability in body armour selection. "The result of our understanding and combined research and development efforts have led to the creation of Centurion," he said.
Reda Nidhakou, Acting CEO of VentureOne, highlighted the significance of advanced technologies in national security. "Centurion will play a key role in equipping and protecting soldiers in the UAE and beyond," he noted. By introducing these innovations to market, they aim to redefine battlefield protection globally.
Advanced Materials
Prof. Vincenzo Giannini from TII explained how advanced materials are transforming defence industries requiring ballistic protection. "Centurion uses cutting-edge materials and patented processing technologies that reduce weight and thickness while maintaining superior protection," he said. This ensures troops can move faster without compromising safety.
The partnership between VentureOne and CARACAL includes establishing production lines in the UAE to scale Centurion for local and global markets. They will continue relying on TII's innovations to keep their solutions competitive. Both organisations are part of the Advanced Technology Research Council overseeing R&D in Abu Dhabi.
This collaboration marks a significant step towards enhancing soldier protection through innovative technology solutions tailored for modern warfare needs.
