Camping Sites Enhance Hiking Activity In Al-Jouf's Spring Areas For Outdoor Enthusiasts
The National Center for Vegetation Cover Development and Combating Desertification (NCVC) in Al-Jouf has identified eight camping locations within the region's spring areas. These include Rahiya, Hadib National Park, Al-Rasif, Al-Yatima pasture, Al-Mahta pasture, Al-Athath pasture, Al-Adhra’ pasture, and Laijah National Park. These sites have become popular for wilderness tourism, attracting visitors to enjoy the natural environment and early spring blooms.
Residents of Al-Jouf frequently engage in wilderness outings during winter. Bilal Al-Khalidi, a local enthusiast, shared with a Saudi Press Agency reporter that weekend camping and day trips offer valuable recreation. Groups of friends typically travel in vehicles equipped for outdoor adventures. Each member has a role, from transporting tents and cooking equipment to selecting the campsite.

Upon arrival at their chosen site, campers set up tents and prepare traditional Saudi coffee and tea. The afternoons are spent exploring the area through hiking and collecting wild aromatic plants. Evenings are reserved for dinner and overnight stays under the stars. This routine allows participants to fully immerse themselves in nature.
The following morning begins with a breakfast of "Musli," a hand-baked flatbread made from flour and water cooked over charcoal using a local tool called Makhbaza. This meal is an essential part of the camping experience, providing nourishment before another day of exploration or returning home.
Camping serves as a significant social activity in Al-Jouf during winter weekends and holidays. It offers friends an opportunity to connect while enjoying the region's unique atmosphere. The vibrant spring areas flourish after the rainy season, enhancing the overall experience for visitors.
The natural beauty of these sites includes early spring blooms such as lavender, buttercup, Jahq, Qahwiyan, Maknan, and Didhan plants. Additionally, truffle hunting is a popular activity among visitors who seek to explore these rich landscapes.
This combination of natural beauty and social interaction makes camping in Al-Jouf an attractive option for those looking to escape urban life temporarily. The designated sites provide ample opportunities for relaxation and adventure amidst stunning scenery.
