Saudi Surgical Team Successfully Separates Burkinabe Conjoined Twins Hawaa And Khadijah In Six-Hour Operation
A team of Saudi surgeons successfully separated conjoined twins, Hawaa and Khadijah, from Burkina Faso. This complex surgery took place at the King Abdullah Specialized Children's Hospital in Riyadh. The procedure involved 26 specialists and lasted six hours, divided into five stages. The team included consultants, nurses, and technical staff from various fields like anesthesia, pediatric surgery, and plastic surgery.
Dr. Abdullah Al Rabeeah, Royal Court Advisor and Supervisor-General of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief), led the medical team. He highlighted that the operation began smoothly with anesthesia completed ahead of schedule. The subsequent sterilization and incision phases also went as planned. The separation of the pericardium and liver was achieved without complications, resulting in minimal blood loss.

The success of this operation underscores the advanced medical equipment provided by the government and the extensive experience of the surgical team. Dr. Al Rabeeah emphasized that this was the 62nd operation under the Saudi Conjoined Twins Program. This program operates under directives from the Kingdom’s leadership.
Over 36 years, this program has cared for 146 conjoined twins from 27 countries. Dr. Al Rabeeah noted Saudi Arabia's pioneering role in humanitarian efforts, especially in medicine. He expressed gratitude to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and His Royal Highness the Crown Prince for their support.
Dr. Al Rabeeah praised these medical achievements as a bright example of Saudi Arabia's civilization. He acknowledged that such successes are possible due to continuous support from national leaders. These operations highlight Saudi Arabia's commitment to humanitarian aid globally.
