Alice Morrison Sets Out On Historic Expedition To Cross Saudi Arabia On Foot Starting January 1

British explorer and TV presenter Alice Morrison is preparing for a historic adventure. She aims to become the first person to walk across Saudi Arabia from north to south. This ambitious journey spans 2,500 kilometers and will take five months, starting on an undisclosed date. Morrison will be accompanied by local guides and camels as she navigates the Kingdom's diverse landscapes.

Morrison's expedition has three main goals: uncovering new landmarks and historical insights, highlighting the significant role of Saudi women in society, and showcasing the natural beauty of Saudi Arabia while emphasizing conservation efforts. By following ancient caravan routes, she hopes to shed light on the historical narratives that shape this region.

One of the key stops on Morrison's route is AlUla, a place rich in history and heritage. She previously featured this location in her series "Arabian Adventures: The Secrets of the Nabateans." Reflecting on her journey, Morrison stated, "I have been studying Arabic and the Middle East for 45 years. Now, I get to explore the heart of Arabia."

Morrison is also keen to engage with Saudi women during her travels. She plans to spend time listening to their stories, offering a platform for their voices. "The route I am taking is stuffed with history, so I’ll be searching for new sites," she said. "I’m also walking through climate change and will be recording my findings."

As a 61-year-old female explorer, Morrison hopes her adventure inspires others to pursue their dreams. She shared, "I am a mid-life woman (61) and I hope my adventure inspires others to get out and follow their dreams. I couldn’t have attempted this at 25; I needed the life experience to get me here."

The harsh desert environment presents challenges that Morrison anticipates will teach her valuable lessons along the way. "The desert is a harsh mistress, and I am sure she will be teaching me many lessons along the route," she remarked.

Saudi Arabia's Growing Appeal

Since opening its doors to recreational tourism, Saudi Arabia has attracted adventurers eager for unique experiences. Throughout her journey, Morrison will travel solo but engage with various women, listening to their diverse stories that reflect their communities' experiences and aspirations.
