BRIDGE Summit 2025 Explores Privacy And Truth Amidst Rising Misinformation Threats
Dr. Jamal Mohammed Obaid Al Kaabi, Vice Chairman of BRIDGE, led a discussion titled "In the Spotlight: Privacy, Risk and Resilience in the Age of Misinformation." The conversation featured Richard Attias, Strategic Advisor to the Chairman of the BRIDGE Alliance, and Cécilia Attias, Founder and President of the Cécilia Attias Foundation for Women. They discussed challenges in the digital age, including AI's rise, social media's influence, and misinformation.
Cécilia Attias shared personal insights on family life and media's impact on those in the public eye. She emphasised the importance of protecting private moments from public scrutiny. False stories are a persistent issue for public figures, she noted. Cécilia criticised media actors who prioritise attention over truth and advised against engaging with rumours.
The session explored how public figures and ordinary people can safeguard truth and dignity amid increasing visibility. Richard Attias reflected on his career journey from engineering to creating global dialogue platforms. He highlighted how the UAE's cultural diversity inspired his work in fostering meaningful conversations.
Richard described the UAE as crucial to his personal journey, praising its visionary leaders who turn ambition into reality. Despite being generally uninterested in social media sharing, he acknowledged platforms like TikTok for knowledge exchange but warned about misleading content.
Richard stressed that as AI power accelerates, it's vital for humans to control their tools rather than be controlled by them. He sees the UAE as an ideal home for global gatherings like the Summit due to its welcoming environment for dreamers and doers.
Cécilia reflected on their time living in the UAE, expressing admiration for its respect for privacy. She noted that they never faced issues while residing there. "There is a warmth in the people of this region that is so important," she said.
Reputation vs Legacy
Dr. Jamal Al Kaabi concluded by asking if reputation or legacy was more valued by the speakers. Richard humorously compared reputation to London's weather—constantly changing—while legacy endures forever. Cécilia expressed her desire to be remembered through lasting contributions across generations.
This session is part of over 300 sessions at BRIDGE Summit, showcasing its scale and ambition. The inaugural BRIDGE Summit will occur from 8–10 December 2025 at ADNEC in Abu Dhabi.
