BRICS Leaders Emphasise Importance Of Solidarity And Cooperation At XVI Summit In Kazan
The leaders of BRICS nations gathered in Kazan, Russia, from 22nd to 24th October 2024 for the XVI BRICS Summit. The theme was "Strengthening Multilateralism for Just Global Development and Security." They emphasised the need to boost BRICS unity and cooperation, focusing on shared interests and priorities to enhance their strategic partnership.
The summit's declaration highlighted the commitment to the Strategy for BRICS Economic Partnership 2025. It stressed actions needed to support necessary reforms within the World Trade Organization (WTO). These reforms aim to improve the WTO's resilience, authority, and effectiveness while promoting development and inclusivity.

The leaders expressed unwavering support for Palestine's full membership in the United Nations. They reaffirmed their commitment to a two-state solution based on international law, including relevant UN Security Council and General Assembly resolutions. This vision includes establishing a sovereign Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, coexisting peacefully with Israel.
Concerns were raised about the worsening situation in the Occupied Palestinian Territory. The leaders noted the severe humanitarian crisis due to escalating violence in Gaza and the West Bank caused by Israeli military actions. This has resulted in significant civilian casualties, forced displacement, and extensive damage to infrastructure.
The summit called for urgent and continuous humanitarian aid to be provided to Gaza. The leaders stressed the importance of addressing immediate needs in the region to alleviate suffering and support those affected by ongoing conflicts.
The discussions at the summit underscored a collective effort towards global development that is just and secure. By reinforcing multilateralism, BRICS aims to address pressing global challenges through cooperation and strategic partnerships.
