Bodour Al Qasimi Leads Sharjah Book Authority's Strategic Vision At Fourth Board Meeting
Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, Chairperson of the Sharjah Book Authority (SBA), led the fourth Board of Directors meeting. The gathering included board members, executives, and department representatives. They reviewed significant achievements and outlined plans to boost innovation, improve performance, and strengthen Sharjah's status as a leading cultural and publishing centre.
Opening the session, Sheikha Bodour reiterated the Authority's commitment to His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi's vision. This vision aims to position Sharjah as a global hub for culture and publishing. She praised strategic initiatives that have enhanced Sharjah’s international standing in the publishing world.

The meeting focused on key strategic priorities for the future. These included digital transformation, workforce development, customer experience enhancement, and promoting sustainability and innovation. Discussions also highlighted operational efficiency through streamlined processes and resource optimisation.
The board explored new technologies to boost efficiency at the Authority. Initiatives like the Customer Relationship Management (CRM) project and Key Performance Indicators (KPI) framework were discussed. These tools aim to support growth, improve customer satisfaction, diversify revenue streams, cut costs, and build lasting global connections.
During the review of recent accomplishments, several key activities were noted. These included organising the fourth annual Sharjah International Booksellers Conference and preparing for the third annual Sharjah Animation Conference (SAC). The Sharjah Children’s Book Illustration Exhibition was also highlighted as part of ongoing efforts.
Plans for Sharjah’s role as Guest of Honour at Morocco’s Rabat International Book Fair were discussed. Participation in major global book fairs was also on the agenda. These efforts aim to further establish Sharjah's presence in international literary circles.
Professional Development Initiatives
SBA’s professional development initiatives were another focal point of discussion. The Sharjah Publishing Sustainability Fund (Onshur) Scale Track was highlighted alongside specialised training courses for publishers and distributors. Outcomes from previous brainstorming workshops were also evaluated during the meeting.
The board addressed anticipated challenges such as rapid technological advancements, rising customer expectations, and talent acquisition issues. Emphasis was placed on maintaining institutional agility while balancing innovation with governance to ensure sustained performance.
Aligning with Broader Institutional Goals
Strategies to align efforts with SBA’s broader goals towards its 2030 vision were examined. Discussions covered mechanisms for proposing new initiatives, annual work plans, evaluation methods, youth empowerment strategies, and expanding collaboration with research institutions.
Concluding the meeting, Sheikha Bodour praised board members' dedication and support teams' efforts in advancing SBA’s mission. She encouraged continued momentum to build on past successes by establishing a model of governance and innovation that reflects Sharjah’s aspirations globally and regionally.
