Bodour Al Qasimi Spearheads Sustainable Tourism Initiatives In Sharjah's Eastern Region

Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, the Chairperson of the Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq), recently embarked on an insightful journey to inspect the progress of three key developmental projects in Khorfakkan. This visit, which included Ahmed Obaid Al Qaseer, CEO of Shurooq, and various departmental directors, highlighted the authority's commitment to enhancing Sharjah's eastern region as a prime destination for heritage, leisure, tourism, and hospitality.

The projects under review were Najd Al Meqsar Village, Khorfakkan Beach, and the LUX* Al Jabal Resort. Each of these developments is at a different stage of completion and aims to offer a unique blend of sustainable heritage and modern luxury. The inspection began with Najd Al Meqsar Village, where Phase 1 is close to completion. This phase introduces seven heritage accommodation units built upon the original architectural foundations of the village, alongside a reception area, a 300-year-old fort, and a mosque. Positioned atop a mountain near Wadi Shie, Najd Al Meqsar Village is set to become a haven for nature enthusiasts with its scenic hiking trails and horseback riding routes.

Sustainable Tourism Boost in Sharjah

Following this, Sheikha Bodour reviewed the enhancements made to Khorfakkan Beach. The completion of Phase 2 has extended the beach by 2.5 kilometres, bringing its total length to 3.5 kilometres. This expansion has introduced new attractions including beachfront restaurants and a fully equipped gym, making it an inclusive destination for relaxation and social gatherings.

The tour concluded with an observation of the developments at LUX* Al Jabal Resort. This eco-friendly resort features 45 cabins made from sustainable Finnish pine, offering guests luxury accommodations that harmonise with the natural environment. Located amidst the rugged terrain of Al Soueifa mountain, the resort promises breathtaking views of the Arabian Sea while emphasising sustainable tourism practices.

Reflecting on the visit, Sheikha Bodour expressed her enthusiasm for these projects, stating that they exemplify Shurooq's dedication to cultural preservation and sustainable development. She emphasized that by integrating tradition with innovation, these initiatives not only enrich Sharjah’s tourism landscape but also ensure the conservation of its natural and cultural heritage for future generations.

These developments in Khorfakkan are a testament to Shurooq's role as a driving force in Sharjah's growth and development. By focusing on sustainable heritage and leisure tourism, Shurooq aims to create exceptional visitor experiences that highlight Sharjah’s cultural richness while safeguarding its environmental treasures.
