25,000+ Beehives Enhance Biodiversity And Economy In Royal Nature Reserve
The Imam Turki bin Abdullah Royal Nature Reserve Development Authority has reported that 25,737 beehives are active across 256 sites within the reserve for the current beekeepers' season. This initiative aims to engage the local community in beekeeping, enhancing the local economy through the development of bee products and fostering innovation, which in turn creates new job opportunities and boosts farmers' and beekeepers' incomes.
Since early July, when this year's beekeepers' season began, the authority has focused on showcasing bees' crucial role in pollination and biodiversity preservation within the reserve. The production of honey is highlighted as an example of how natural resources contribute to economic growth while emphasizing environmental protection and sustainability standards.

The beekeepers' season at the Imam Turki bin Abdullah Royal Reserve also promotes ecotourism by drawing attention to its beautiful landscapes and pristine natural environment. This helps establish the reserve as a unique ecotourism destination. The reserve spans 91,500 square kilometers in northeastern Saudi Arabia, making it the second-largest royal protected area. It serves as a habitat for various wildlife species and numerous plant types.
According to the authority, 109 permits have been issued to beekeepers so far. The reserve is known for producing two premium types of honey: Talh and Sidr. These varieties are harvested until the end of September, while spring blossom honey is produced from February to May.
The authority's efforts aim to revive traditional beekeeping practices among locals, thereby supporting sustainable economic development. By developing local bee products and encouraging innovation, new job opportunities are created, increasing income for farmers and beekeepers alike.
The reserve not only supports biodiversity but also includes several ancient historical and heritage sites. This blend of natural beauty and cultural significance enhances its appeal as an ecotourism hub.
The commitment to protecting the environment is evident through these initiatives, which align with sustainability standards. The focus on generating honey products underscores how natural resources can drive economic development while maintaining ecological balance.
The Imam Turki bin Abdullah Royal Reserve's efforts highlight its dedication to both environmental conservation and economic growth through sustainable practices in beekeeping.
