Baniyas Jiu-Jitsu Club Dominates Opening Day Of Khaled Bin Mohamed Bin Zayed Championship In Abu Dhabi
Baniyas Jiu-Jitsu Club emerged as the frontrunner on the first day of the final round of the Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Jiu-Jitsu Championship at Abu Dhabi's Mubadala Arena. The event featured male and female athletes in U18, adult, and master categories from various UAE clubs and academies. Al Ain Jiu-Jitsu Club secured second place, with M.O.D UAE finishing third.
Mohamed Salem Al Dhaheri, Vice Chairman of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation, praised the championship for its high standards. He noted that it highlights the athletes' dedication and hard work throughout the season. "Today, we witnessed matches that reflect strength, performance, and the spirit of challenge in the youth, adult and master categories. The athletes demonstrated outstanding skills and experience, positioning themselves as role models for future generations of athletes."

Al Dhaheri further mentioned that this inaugural championship has become a crucial platform for developing new champions who embody national aspirations. These athletes have the potential to represent the UAE on international stages. Fahad Al Hosani from Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank remarked on how Emirati sports have advanced under wise leadership. He stated that jiu-jitsu promotes values like courage, discipline, teamwork, patience, and endurance.
"This sport serves as a model for channelling energy and building future generations," said Al Hosani. "Today, we saw dreams transform into achievements thanks to the exceptional competitive environment provided by this tournament, which attracts participants of all ages and backgrounds, enhancing the UAE’s position as a hub for excellence and innovation in sports."
Ribamar Santiago, coach of Baniyas Club, expressed pride in participating in this prestigious tournament. "The Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Jiu-Jitsu Championship has elevated the level of challenge for all participants and clubs. It unites elite players in a professional and well-organised competitive atmosphere." Santiago added that Baniyas Club is competing with 328 male and female players over three days.
The club's athletes showcased exceptional performances with matches testing their skills at top levels. Santiago noted that fierce competition motivates them to refine strategies and improve performances. They are eager to maintain momentum aiming for podium finishes in upcoming days.
Individual Achievements
Mohammed Khamis Al Farsi from Al Wahda Club won gold in the Masters category (69 kg). He shared his thoughts: "This victory is a testament to the effort I put into preparing for this tournament, which featured intense competition that heightened the value of this achievement." Al Farsi thanked his club and supporters while expressing determination to build on his success in future events.
This championship not only showcases athletic talent but also serves as a platform for nurturing future champions who can represent their nation globally.
