Bangladesh Pilgrims Experience Enhanced Travel With Makkah Route Initiative In 2025
The Makkah Route Initiative, now in its seventh year, continues to support pilgrims from Southeast Asia. This year marks its fifth return to Bangladesh, a nation of about 170 million Bengali speakers. The initiative is spearheaded by the Ministry of Interior and involves several Saudi government bodies.
Bangladesh first joined the initiative in 2019, two years after its inception in 2017. Since then, it has participated annually, including in 2022, 2023, and 2024. In 2025, the initiative once again assists pilgrims at Dhaka's Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.

The initiative aims to streamline travel for pilgrims by completing all necessary procedures before departure. Services include biometric data collection, electronic visa issuance, and passport control after health checks. Luggage is tagged according to transport and accommodation plans in Saudi Arabia.
Upon arrival in Saudi Arabia, pilgrims are transported directly to their accommodations in Makkah and Madinah. Their luggage is handled separately by partner agencies to ensure a smooth transition. This process allows pilgrims to focus on their spiritual journey without logistical concerns.
The initiative involves collaboration with various Saudi entities such as the ministries of foreign affairs, health, Hajj and Umrah, and media. Other partners include the General Authority of Civil Aviation and the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority.
Saudi teams equipped with advanced technology facilitate pre-departure procedures at Dhaka airport. These teams represent partner agencies that ensure efficiency and ease for departing pilgrims heading to Jeddah or Madinah airports.
Ensuring a Seamless Journey for Pilgrims
Pilgrims leave for King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah or Prince Mohammad bin Abdulaziz International Airport in Madinah with peace of mind. Completing all travel formalities at home allows them to embark on their spiritual journey without stress.
The Makkah Route Initiative exemplifies Saudi Arabia's commitment to providing high-quality services for pilgrims from participating countries. By handling travel procedures domestically, it enhances the overall experience for those embarking on this significant religious journey.
