Bait Elowal Inaugurated By Sharjah Ruler: A Unique Culinary And Cultural Journey
His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, inaugurated Bait Elowal on Wednesday. Located in the heart of Sharjah, this venue offers a unique blend of culinary arts and cultural heritage. Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi envisioned it as a tribute to Sharjah’s legacy as a vibrant commercial centre where flavours, stories, and traditions converge.
The Ruler of Sharjah embarked on a tour of Bait Elowal, which means "House of the Traveller" in Emirati. This term refers to someone who returns home with stories and new flavours from other cultures. Visitors are invited to explore history and cuisine through a menu inspired by the ancient Silk Road, artisanal craftsmanship from around the world, and an atmosphere reflecting traditional Emirati warmth.
Bait Elowal is nestled in the Heart of Sharjah, a beautifully restored district featuring winding alleys, traditional souks, and historic museums. This two-story heritage house is over 100 years old and faces Sharjah Creek on Al Merraijja Square. Its architecture preserves regional history with a central courtyard adorned with a tranquil fountain and Moroccan Zellige tiles.
Renovated in 2024, the structure retains its thick walls, flat roofs, and intricately carved wooden doors. The ground-floor courtyard hosts Bait Elowal’s main restaurant, offering a menu that highlights locally sourced ingredients. It showcases flavours from Morocco, Persia, India, and Turkey, reflecting the rich heritage of the Silk Road.
Sheikha Bodour Al Qasimi stated: "Every visit to Bait Elowal is a unique journey that immerses guests in the atmosphere of rich Emirati traditions and the spirit of exploration. Through distinctive cuisine, storytelling and handicrafts, we celebrate the flavours and cultural connections that have long connected Sharjah to the world."
The Ruler's tour began at the main courtyard leading to an outdoor restaurant surrounded by signature experiences like Soghat Elowal. This ethical craft boutique features handcrafted designs from across the region including Emirati embroidery and Moroccan homeware. Each piece tells a story of heritage and artistry.

Overlooking the historic port, this Moroccan-inspired terrace provides a serene escape from city life where guests can relax while enjoying fine teas infused with Silk Route flavours alongside light bites.
