Bahraini Deputy Prime Minister Calls For Resolution Of Palestinian Issue To Ensure Regional Security And Harmony

During the Extraordinary Arab and Islamic Summit in Riyadh, Bahrain's Deputy Prime Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Abdullah Al-Khalifa reiterated Bahrain's commitment to achieving a just and lasting peace in the Middle East. He highlighted the importance of resolving the Palestinian issue to ensure security and harmony for all people in the region.

Shaikh Khalid urged the international community, particularly the UN Security Council, to take responsibility by responding to Bahrain's initiative. This initiative, endorsed at the 'Bahrain Summit' in Manama last May, calls for an international peace conference. It supports Palestinian self-determination and the establishment of an independent state along the 1967 borders with east Jerusalem as its capital.

Bahraini Leader Urges Palestinian Peace Efforts

The deputy prime minister stressed the need for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and southern Lebanon. He called for releasing hostages, opening humanitarian corridors, and starting reconstruction efforts to help refugees return. Ending illegal Israeli occupation and maintaining Jerusalem's historical status are also crucial steps.

Shaikh Khalid emphasized preventing violence and settlement expansion in the West Bank. He also highlighted implementing UN Security Council Resolution 1701 on Lebanon as essential. This resolution addresses various aspects of Lebanon's security situation.

The deputy prime minister underscored upholding the Taif Agreement to ensure Lebanon's security, stability, and territorial integrity. Enhancing efforts by the United Nations and its agencies in peacekeeping and humanitarian assistance is also vital.

Bahrain continues to advocate for peace initiatives that address regional conflicts comprehensively. The focus remains on ensuring long-term stability through diplomatic efforts and international cooperation.
