Azerbaijan To Host COP29 Climate Conference, Emphasizes Sustainability And Inclusivity
COP29 President-Designate Mukhtar Babayev and UNFCCC Executive Secretary Simon Stiell attended a signing ceremony, reaffirming Azerbaijan’s status as the host country for this year’s COP29 UN climate conference. The exchange of letters followed the COP29 Operating Company’s announcement of progress in its preparations to welcome international delegates to Baku.
During the Bonn Climate Change Conference, the COP29 Presidency held a briefing and feedback session on transportation, accommodation, and hospitality for the thousands of visitors expected. The Presidency continued consultations with observer organisations and country delegates to ensure accessibility for all attendees.

Guided by conference principles, sustainability is a priority. The focus is on encouraging international cooperation and hosting an inclusive event that will leave a lasting legacy in Azerbaijan. "The COP29 Presidency has made significant progress and will be ready to deliver a world-class event," said Mukhtar Babayev.
Narmin Jarchalova, COO of the COP29 Operating Company, highlighted Azerbaijan's natural diversity, multicultural society, historic heritage, and forward-looking vision as unique components for hosting COP29. "Our experienced team organising the logistics and services is excited to host COP29 and welcome the world to Azerbaijan this November," she said.
The COP29 Presidency shared details about the conference venue, green zone arrangements, working facilities, transportation, accommodation, visas, and catering. Sustainability considerations are central to the event's organisation. The Presidency aims to monitor and report on emissions generated by operations throughout the event.
Inclusivity is a top priority in all event preparations. Organisers are focused on promoting respect and inclusivity with diverse representation in speakers, panels, and workshops. Measures are in place to ensure accessibility to the conference venue and facilities for all participants.
Legacy Programme
A specially designed legacy programme focuses on building human capital, enhancing infrastructure, and fostering sustainable development. It includes capacity building, raising local awareness, and reusing logistics and infrastructure items. This programme aims to leave a positive impact on Azerbaijan long after the conference concludes.
The COP29 Presidency remains committed to delivering an inclusive and sustainable event that addresses global climate challenges while showcasing Azerbaijan's capabilities as a host nation.
