Juan Ayuso Achieves Major Triumph For UAE Team Emirates At Tirreno-Adriatico

Juan Ayuso of UAE Team Emirates-XRG achieved a significant milestone by winning the overall title at Tirreno-Adriatico in Italy. The 22-year-old Spaniard demonstrated remarkable consistency, starting with a second-place finish behind Filippo Ganna of Ineos-Grenadiers in the initial time trial. This performance set the stage for his success throughout the race.

Ayuso's victory was solidified during stage 6 when he launched a decisive solo attack on the climb to Frontignano. This triumph on the Queen stage ensured his overall win before the final day. Jonathan Milan from Lidl-Trek claimed victory in the sprint on the last stage, which spanned 147km from Porto Potenza Picena to San Benedetto del Tronto.

The UAE Team Emirates-XRG also celebrated as they were recognised as the best team in the competition. This accolade highlighted their collective effort and marked their 18th victory of the season. Their teamwork and strategy played a crucial role in securing Ayuso's win and maintaining their dominance throughout the event.

Reflecting on his achievement, Ayuso expressed, "I can probably say that this is my biggest victory alongside La Itzulia, though here I also got to win a stage so I would say it’s been my best performance until now." He acknowledged the challenges faced during the final stage due to windy conditions but credited his team for keeping him safe and protected.

When asked about his confidence for future races like the Giro d'Italia, Ayuso noted that while this victory boosts his confidence, he recognises that each race presents unique challenges. "Does it give me confidence for the Giro? I guess so, but the Giro is three weeks long, it’s a different story, a different kind of race," he stated. His immediate focus will be on preparing for Volta Catalunya before tackling other upcoming competitions.
