High-Quality Competitive National Products Key To Achieving Local Content Goals In Saudi Vision 2030

Bandar Alkhorayef, Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources and Chairman of the Local Content and Government Procurement Authority, emphasised the importance of high-quality local products. He stated that these products are crucial for achieving local content goals and boosting Saudi Arabia's economic growth. His remarks were made during a session titled "Future Directions for Local Content Under the Saudi Vision 2030" at the Local Content Forum 2024.

Alkhorayef highlighted that local content is a key pillar in achieving the Saudi Vision 2030. Developing various elements of local content directly supports the vision's executive programs. The mandatory list of national products is a tool to direct government spending towards local goods, enhancing their presence in the market.

Local Products Vital for Economic Development

The Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources plays a crucial role in expanding the industrial base. It enables factories to increase the share of high-quality national products on this mandatory list. This expansion aims to strengthen local manufacturing capabilities and ensure competitive standards.

The private sector is vital in promoting local content, according to Alkhorayef. The Local Content and Government Procurement Authority implements initiatives through strategic partnerships and the Local Content Coordination Council. This council includes major national companies collaborating with the authority to boost local content in their operations.

The forum's second edition builds on its predecessor's success by facilitating knowledge exchange. It raises awareness about local content mechanisms and policies, underscoring its essential role in realising Saudi Vision 2030.

The event also highlights how these initiatives contribute to economic diversification and sustainability goals outlined in Vision 2030. By fostering collaboration between government bodies and private enterprises, Saudi Arabia aims to create a robust ecosystem for local industries.

This approach not only enhances domestic production but also reduces reliance on imports, thereby strengthening the national economy. As these efforts continue, they are expected to yield significant benefits for both businesses and consumers across the Kingdom.
