Al Amal Hospital's 'Autism Talks' Enhances Awareness And Community Support

Al Amal Psychiatric Hospital, in collaboration with the Emirates Autism Society, recently hosted "Autism Talks," an initiative aimed at enhancing community awareness and support for individuals with autism. This event is part of a broader effort to improve the quality of life for those affected by autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and was marked by the participation of notable figures from various sectors.

The gathering featured insights from Mohammed Al Kaabi, Executive Director of the Ajman Government Media Office and board member of the Emirates Autism Society, alongside Hassan Ahmed, a radio presenter known for his advocacy towards changing societal perceptions of autism. The event also saw contributions from Maryam Ali Al Hammad, an active member of the Emirates Autism Society; Asmaa Baqer, an Emirati artist; Latifa Al Shamsi, a social media influencer; Dr. Hayat Tarsh Al Alili from Emirates Health Services; and Abdullah Lutfi, an Emirati artist.

'Autism Talks' Boosts Awareness

Dr. Noor Al Muhairi, Director of the Psychiatric Health Department at EHS, highlighted in her opening remarks the critical challenges faced by individuals with special needs, including autism. She emphasized the importance of societal support and guidance for these individuals to prevent isolation and enhance their social and occupational engagement opportunities. Dr. Al Muhairi also stressed the need for innovative solutions in treating ASD and supporting affected individuals and their families through educational programs, scientific research, and effective therapies.

Majid Sultan Al Mheiri, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Emirates Autism Society, lauded the partnership with Emirates Health Services and Al Amal Psychiatric Hospital. He pointed out that "Autism Talks" is a key step towards raising awareness about ASD and fostering an inclusive community. The initiative included an art exhibition showcasing works by individuals with autism and discussions that shared stories of resilience and hope.

Al Mheiri emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts in supporting individuals with autism, highlighting that such initiatives promote tolerance and understanding within Emirati society. He also noted the positive impact of these efforts on building an inclusive environment that supports the capacity building and integration of individuals with autism into society.

Dr. Ammar Hameed Al Banna, Director of Al Amal Psychiatric Hospital, underscored the significance of sharing the experiences of individuals with autism and their families. He mentioned that "Autism Talks" serves as a platform for instilling hope within the community, especially among families newly navigating an ASD diagnosis. This initiative plays a crucial role in increasing societal awareness and understanding.
