Authors From The UAE Makes International Debut At Bologna Children's Book Fair To Promote Emirati Literature

The "Authors from the UAE" initiative, a collaboration between the UAE Media Council and ELF Publishing, recently marked its first participation in the Bologna Children's Book Fair. This effort aims to bolster the UAE's publishing sector by promoting Emirati talent in children's literature and enhancing the global reach of Emirati works that embody the nation's cultural values.

Maitha Al Suwaidi, CEO of the Media Strategy and Policy Sector at the UAE Media Council, highlighted this participation as a pivotal step in exporting UAE children's content worldwide. She noted that it strengthens the country's presence in international children's literature. "We take pride in the fact that Authors from the UAE is making its international debut at one of the world’s most important children’s book fairs," she stated.

Emirati authors Maitha Al Khayat and Ibtisam Al-Beiti were prominently featured during this event. Both authors were chosen in the initiative's initial phase, playing key roles in elevating Emirati content to global platforms. Their involvement helps showcase the high standards of UAE's publishing industry to an international audience.

Al Suwaidi further explained that children's literature is crucial for fostering awareness, imagination, and values. "Our participation in the Bologna Fair offers Emirati creatives a platform to showcase their work globally and helps solidify the UAE’s image as a distinguished source in the field of children’s literature," she added.

The initiative was launched in February 2025 with a strategic partnership between ELF Publishing and the UAE Media Council. It reflects a commitment to empowering national talent and enriching global literary landscapes with Emirati content. The initiative aims to present works that convey UAE's dignified image and values through engaging stories.

Al Suwaidi concluded by emphasising their ongoing dedication to supporting national talent through partnerships like ELF Publishing. "Through our strategic partnership with ELF Publishing, we continue our commitment to supporting national talent and enabling Emirati writers and publishers to access global markets," she said.

This initiative not only supports local authors but also strengthens dialogue with international communities through their writings. It seeks to build communication bridges worldwide while reflecting UAE's civilised image through its literary contributions.
