AUS And LTU Collaborate To Offer Accelerated Master’s Degrees For Engineering Students
The American University of Sharjah (AUS) has recently entered into a significant partnership with Lawrence Technological University (LTU) in Southfield, Michigan, USA, through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This collaboration is set to open new doors for AUS engineering students by offering them an accelerated path to graduate studies at LTU and introducing joint academic and training initiatives.
Under this agreement, AUS engineering undergraduates will have the opportunity to enroll in a 4+1 program. This unique arrangement allows students who have completed four years of undergraduate study at AUS to achieve a master’s degree from LTU within just one additional year. To facilitate this, AUS students will be granted an expedited admission process, assuming they meet LTU’s standard entry criteria. Moreover, successful candidates will receive a partial scholarship of $10,000 to support their studies at LTU.

The MoU also outlines plans for the two institutions to work together on establishing one or more programs that may include double or dual degrees. Furthermore, AUS and LTU will collaborate on designing training programs for research and development projects and explore opportunities for exchange or study abroad initiatives.
Dr. Tod Laursen, Chancellor of AUS, and Dr. Tarek Sobh, President of LTU, officially signed the MoU on campus. Chancellor Laursen highlighted the potential benefits of this agreement, stating it would significantly enhance the university experience for AUS engineering students by providing an accelerated educational pathway and recognizing academic excellence. He also emphasized the creation of a rich academic environment that extends beyond traditional boundaries.
President Sobh expressed enthusiasm about the transformative partnership with AUS, emphasizing LTU’s commitment to technological eminence, industry immersion, professional excellence, interdisciplinary agility, and a focus on research and creative practices. He noted that this collaboration would offer valuable opportunities for international research efforts and contribute to the growth of Lawrence Tech’s research portfolio.
The AUS College of Engineering (CEN) is known for its emphasis on partnerships with leading industrial and academic entities. It offers 10 undergraduate programs and 12 graduate programs, including PhDs in Engineering Systems Management and Biosciences and Bioengineering. According to the QS World University Rankings by Broad Subjects (2023), AUS is ranked third in the UAE in the category of engineering and technology.
This partnership between AUS and LTU represents a significant step forward in providing engineering students with comprehensive educational pathways that combine academic excellence with practical experience. It underscores both institutions' commitment to fostering innovation and preparing future leaders equipped to drive positive change globally.
