AUS Celebrates Athletic Excellence And Unity In Ramadan Sports Tournament

Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, President of American University of Sharjah (AUS), recently celebrated with UAE student athletes at the Intercollegiate Ramadan Sports Tournament 2024 awards ceremony. This event underscored AUS' commitment to fostering athletic talent and building a sense of community among students. The tournament, spanning six days, featured basketball, volleyball, and soccer competitions, drawing participation from 544 student athletes—117 women and 427 men—highlighting the university's spirit of athletic excellence.

The awards ceremony was graced by the presence of Sheikh Rashid bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Chairman of the Municipality and Planning Department in Ajman; Eisa Hilal Al Hazami, Chairman of Sharjah Sports Council; and Miralem Pjanić, a renowned Bosnian professional footballer. The event celebrated the achievements of student athletes from 21 universities across the UAE, including prestigious institutions such as Canadian University Dubai, Rochester Institute of Technology Dubai, and University of Birmingham Dubai.

AUS Wins at Ramadan Sports Event

Salim Mikati, Director of the Department of Student Athletics and Recreation at AUS, expressed his admiration for the dedication and sportsmanship displayed by the students. He emphasized that the tournament was not just a celebration of athleticism but also an opportunity to foster belonging and camaraderie among students.

In a display of skill and determination, the American University of Ras Al Khaimah secured first place in men's basketball, with AUS following closely in second place. Gulf Medical University rounded out the top three. The men's volleyball saw Rochester Institute of Technology taking home the first-place trophy, with Al Qasimia University and AUS finishing second and third respectively. In men's soccer, AUS demonstrated outstanding performance to claim first place, with American University in the Emirates and Ajman University completing the podium.

The women's categories were dominated by AUS, showcasing its strength in both volleyball and soccer. AUS teams triumphed with first-place finishes in volleyball and both first and second places in soccer. Middlesex University Dubai claimed the top spot in women's basketball.

The culmination of the tournament saw AUS being crowned as Overall Champions, a testament to the university's commitment to excellence in athletics as well as academics. This achievement highlights AUS' role in promoting health, fitness, and teamwork through its comprehensive sports programs.
