GCC Secretary-General Condemns Israel's Attacks On Iran As Violations Of International Law

Jassem Al Budaiwi, Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), has criticised Israel's actions against Iran, describing them as a clear breach of international law. He condemned these attacks as a violation of national sovereignty. Speaking at the 51st session of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Istanbul, Al Budaiwi reiterated the GCC's stance on returning to diplomatic solutions.

He emphasised the importance of restraint and keeping diplomatic channels open to prevent further regional tensions. Al Budaiwi praised Oman for its mediation efforts in US-Iran talks and urged all parties to prioritise diplomacy over conflict. He warned that any confrontation could have consequences beyond regional borders.

Al Budaiwi reaffirmed the GCC’s unwavering support for Palestinians in Gaza, calling for an end to their suffering. He stressed the need to lift the blockade on Gaza, open crossings for humanitarian aid, and ensure continuous delivery of essential supplies. He also highlighted the urgent need for international protection for Palestinians and urged compliance with international laws and UN resolutions.

He called for an end to civilian targeting and insisted on adherence to international humanitarian laws. The GCC remains committed to supporting joint Islamic action led by the OIC since its inception, particularly on key issues affecting the Islamic world.

The GCC has actively participated in political mediation and conflict resolution within the Islamic world. This includes supporting dialogue between conflicting parties and facilitating consensus on sensitive issues through effective diplomatic channels. Al Budaiwi noted that GCC countries play a significant role in these efforts.

The Council has provided political support during emergency Islamic summits and contributed to reconstruction efforts in affected areas. It also defends Muslim communities' rights internationally, aligning with Islamic solidarity principles.

Combating Islamophobia

Al Budaiwi highlighted the GCC's central role in combating Islamophobia and countering campaigns that distort Islam's image. The GCC supports OIC initiatives at the United Nations and adopts resolutions promoting coexistence and mutual respect.

The Council's backing is evident in its contributions to defending Muslim communities' rights globally. It aligns with Islamic solidarity principles by supporting key issues affecting Muslims worldwide.

The GCC continues to advocate for peaceful resolutions through diplomacy while addressing critical issues within the Islamic community. Its efforts aim to foster unity and cooperation among member states while promoting peace and stability across regions.
