Assaad Feddah Honoured With Sharjah Award For Arab Theatrical Creativity In 2025

The Sharjah Department of Culture has announced that Assaad Feddah, a renowned Syrian director and actor, will receive the Sharjah Award for Arab Theatrical Creativity in 2025. This recognition honours his significant contributions to Arab theatre over more than five decades. His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, supports this award.

The award ceremony will coincide with the 34th edition of Sharjah Theatrical Days, starting on 19th February. During the opening event, Feddah will be honoured for his achievements. A panel discussion about his artistic journey is also planned, along with the release of a book detailing his creative impact.

Assaad Feddah Wins Sharjah Theatre Award

Since its inception in 2007, the award has celebrated numerous theatre figures who have excelled in various disciplines such as criticism, directing, acting, and playwriting. The first recipient was Saad Ardash from Egypt. Other notable winners include Touriya Jabrane from Morocco and Nidal Al Ashkar from Lebanon.

Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Owais, Chairman of the Sharjah Department of Culture, highlighted that this award is part of several initiatives supported by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi. These efforts aim to promote Arab theatre due to its vital role in community education and cultural enrichment.

The award recognises individuals who have made significant contributions to Arab theatre. Past recipients include Kuwaiti artist Saad Al Faraj and Egyptian artist Samiha Ayoub. Syrian artist Duraid Lahham and the late Kuwaiti artist Abdulhussain Abdulredha have also been honoured.

The annual event takes place alongside the Sharjah Theatrical Days festival. It celebrates the journeys and contributions of Arab theatre pioneers and luminaries. This initiative reflects a commitment to advancing theatre arts within the region.

Feddah's recognition underscores his positive influence on Arab theatre's growth and enrichment over many years. His work has left a lasting impact on audiences and fellow artists alike.
