ASOSAI General Assembly Unanimously Elects Saudi Arabia As Chair For 2027-2030
The General Assembly of the Asian Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (ASOSAI) has unanimously elected Saudi Arabia, represented by the General Court of Audit (GCA), as chair for 2027–2030. This decision was made during ASOSAI's sixteenth session. Saudi Arabia will also host the 17th General Assembly and Governing Board meetings in that period, according to ASOSAI's news release.
Dr. Hussam Alangari, President of the General Court of Audit, expressed his congratulations to King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman on this achievement. He noted that this election underscores Saudi Arabia's prominent role in international and regional audit institutions and highlights GCA’s leadership in supreme audit institutions globally.

In his address at the General Assembly, Dr. Alangari emphasized the importance of Saudi Arabia’s new role as chair of ASOSAI. He highlighted the organization's progress across various sectors and acknowledged the support from government leadership, which has propelled advancements in public sector audits in line with Vision 2030.
Dr. Alangari also reaffirmed Saudi Arabia's dedication to making the 17th General Assembly a platform for enhanced cooperation among Asian supreme audit institutions. He stressed developing topics for the assembly, technical symposium, and Governing Board discussions to boost accountability, transparency, and governance in Asia.
The General Assembly took place in New Delhi, India, with Indian President Droupadi Murmu inaugurating it. The meeting covered several topics such as approving ASOSAI’s financial statements for 2021–2023 and its budget for 2025–2027. The Audit Committee’s report was also discussed alongside other significant issues.
Additional discussions included reviewing ASOSAI’s activities since the last assembly through reports from the General Secretariat. Topics like strategic planning, capacity development, cooperation with regional organizations, and forming new working groups were addressed.
Background on ASOSAI
The assembly followed ASOSAI's 60th Governing Board meeting where reports from various working groups and subcommittees were evaluated. Established in 1978, ASOSAI is a regional body comprising 48 supreme audit institutions across Asia. It is affiliated with INTOSAI, which serves as a global reference for supreme audit practices.
This election marks a significant milestone for Saudi Arabia within ASOSAI. It reflects not only its growing influence but also its commitment to fostering collaboration among Asian countries through improved auditing standards and practices.
