Asian Physics Olympiad 2025 Commences In Dhahran With Participation From 240 Students Across 30 Countries
The 25th Asian Physics Olympiad (APhO) 2025 commenced on Monday at King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM) in Dhahran. This event features 240 students from 30 nations, alongside over 100 international experts. Running from May 4 to 12, it is themed "Together, We Generate the Energy of the Future."
Saudi Aramco sponsors this significant event, highlighting its dedication to scientific excellence. With a history spanning over 90 years in engineering and development, Saudi Aramco aims to empower young minds and promote innovation through such high-level competitions.

Mawhiba Acting Secretary-General Dr. Khalid Al-Sharif emphasised that APhO 2025 is a global platform celebrating intelligence and knowledge. He stated, "Hosting this scientific event reflects Saudi Arabia’s commitment to supporting and empowering young people to shape the future and lead advancements in physics and beyond."
Dr. Leong Chuan Kwek, President of APhO, acknowledged the significance of hosting the event in the Middle East for the first time. He praised the supporting institutions for their efforts in making this major scientific gathering a reality.
The Ministry of Education, King Abdulaziz and His Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity (Mawhiba), and KFUPM jointly organise APhO 2025. Their collaboration underscores Saudi Arabia's commitment to fostering educational excellence and innovation among youth.
This year's theme highlights the importance of collaboration in generating future energy solutions. The event serves as a platform for young talents to showcase their skills and contribute to advancements in physics.
