Aseer Region Attracts 7.5 Million Tourists In 2024 Amidst Growing Appeal
Aseer Region is gearing up to become a top tourist spot in Saudi Arabia by the summer of 2025. With temperatures staying below 20 degrees Celsius, the region offers a pleasant climate amidst the stunning Sarawat peaks. Visitors can enjoy a mix of natural and cultural attractions, including cloud-covered parks, historical sites, heritage villages, and open-air museums.
Over the last five years, Aseer has seen a rise in interest from both local and international tourists. This is due to its diverse tourism offerings and improved infrastructure that now rivals leading regional destinations. The Annual Statistical Report for 2024 from the Ministry of Tourism shows Aseer ranked fourth in Saudi Arabia for tourist numbers, drawing about 7.5 million visitors.

An analytical study by the Abha Chamber of Commerce and Industry in March 2025 highlighted significant growth in tourist accommodations, spending, and visitor numbers. By the end of 2024, Aseer had 288 licensed tourist accommodation facilities, including 44 hotels, 217 furnished apartments, 24 hotel apartments, and three chalets. These provided a total of 9,718 hotel rooms.
In 2023, local tourists spent around SAR10.6 billion in Aseer Region. This accounted for 9.2% of all local tourist spending across Saudi Arabia. The data also shows that 80% of local tourism expenditure focused on accommodation and food and beverage sectors. This presents attractive investment opportunities for private sector development in these areas.
The region's appeal as a domestic tourism hotspot is further emphasized by its entertainment offerings being a priority for 46% of visitors. In addition to this, visitors from GCC countries made up about 64% of Aseer's tourism in 2023, while those from the broader Middle East accounted for 23.27%. This reflects an impressive annual growth rate of 199%, showcasing Aseer's growing regional appeal.
Cultural Attractions and Strategic Goals
Aseer is home to over 200 heritage villages with unique urban characteristics. The region is renowned for "Al-Qatt Al-Asiri" arts and vibrant folk festivals. With support from the Ministry of Tourism and the Aseer Region Development Authority, efforts are underway to make Aseer a year-round sustainable tourist destination.
The strategic goals align with developing tourist sites that cater to visitor preferences. Seasonal events are tailored to diverse traveler interests as part of ongoing efforts to enhance tourism experiences in the region.
Aseer's increasing importance on Saudi Arabia's tourism landscape is evident through its cultural richness and strategic developments aimed at attracting more visitors year-round.
